A Rainy Summer Wedding at Park Crest Event Facility
Taylor and Alex’s wedding day at Park Crest was one I had been looking forward to for a long time. Taylor is one of my sister Taylor’s best friends, and I’ve known her since we were kids, so getting to photograph this day felt extra special.
And when I say it rained on their wedding day, I don’t mean a cute little sprinkle. It poured. All. Day. At one point, water was literally making its way into the reception space. But somehow, right before their outdoor ceremony, the rain stopped. The skies cleared, and we got about a 45-minute window of sunshine that lasted just long enough for Taylor and Alex to get married.
Then? Right back to rain.
But later that evening, we were handed one more tiny break in the weather and had about ten minutes to run outside for sunset portraits. We took every second of it, and those ended up being some of my favorite images from their day.

A First Look Before the Ceremony
Before the ceremony, Taylor and Alex shared a first look and a few quiet moments together. With rain still coming down, we weren’t exactly sure what the weather was going to let us do for the rest of the day.
And then somehow, right when we needed it, the rain stopped.

An Outdoor Ceremony at Park Crest
After a full day of pouring rain, the skies cleared just in time for Taylor and Alex’s outdoor ceremony at Park Crest. We had about a 45-minute window without rain, and it could not have happened at a better time.
They were able to have the outdoor ceremony they had planned, surrounded by their family and friends, with the prettiest blue and white florals framing the ceremony space.
And almost as soon as it was over, the rain came right back. Because apparently the weather had agreed to give us exactly 45 minutes and not a second more.

Time to Celebrate
After surviving what may have been one of the rainiest wedding days I’ve ever photographed, it was finally time to celebrate.
Taylor and Alex’s reception was full of sweet moments, plenty of dancing, and all of their favorite people packed inside while the rain continued outside.

Wedding Portraits at Park Crest
After the ceremony, the rain came right back and continued into the reception. But later in the evening, the skies finally started to clear and gave us the most beautiful sunset.
The second I saw that light, I knew we had to take advantage of it. We slipped outside for about ten minutes of sunset portraits, and somehow, after a day of pouring rain, we ended up with the dreamiest golden light. It felt like the perfect little reward after everything the weather had thrown at us that day.
And those ten minutes? Some of my favorite portraits from their entire wedding day.

And of course, we couldn’t end the night without Alex’s red car. It’s his prized possession, so there was absolutely no question that it needed a moment of its own on their wedding day. It also happened to make a pretty great getaway car.

Planning a Wedding at Park Crest Event Facility?
Park Crest is such a beautiful option for couples planning a wedding in the Birmingham area, with both indoor and outdoor spaces that give us plenty of variety throughout the day. And after Taylor and Alex’s wedding, I think we can officially confirm that we can make some pretty incredible portraits there even when Alabama weather decides not to cooperate.
If you’re planning a wedding at Park Crest and looking for a photographer who will guide you through your day while creating romantic, refined images that still feel like you, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
